This is for everyone who is surprised that I sometimes read romance novels:

I read romances and have since I can remember. I have gone through phases of hiding them and of flaunting them. Frankly, I don't care what people think now. I read what I read for escapism -- a mental break. Just as I don't want to go see a Film that will leave me depressed for a month after, I don't want to read a Book that will leave me feeling as though my soul is hopeless. No, thanks. I like light series mysteries and well-written romances. I like books with great character development. And, I don't care if someone thinks my books are shallow. I think their books are dull and depressing and I'd rather be shallow than suicidal, thanks! :)
