mountains out of molehills

The boys were out there investigating them, hoping, apparently, that the mole would pop up and say hello.

DS2 said they must dig with their noses.

I'm going to tell the landlord that the good news is that the lawn is being aerated for free.

The neighbor thinks we need a cat. But how would one convince a cat to sit in the front yard, waiting for a mole to pop up?

You need a rat terrier -- it would need no convincing. Ruby would stay in the front yard watching a molehill for hours. Actually, she'd dig at it, catch the mole, kill it and be done with it. We've also found that when she digs at their holes, they stop coming around anymore. She hasn't caught a single gopher but they abandon the yard when she digs at their holes. Just a thought.
