"The whole country?"
"Who's that famous lady?"
"I'm not sure. There are lots of famous ladies."
"Argentina!"
"That's Argentina." (point to world map, conveniently located nearby).
"Argentina!"
"Argentina...."
"Noooo, that lady who sings in Flushed Away."
"Ooooooh! Tina Turner!" (though I'm not sure it's her singing the version that's in that movie, but I have a tape of the Ike and Tina review and we listened to it in the car a bunch of times after they watched Flushed Away)
I'm not sure what this has to do with the horse game they were playing as they galloped around the living room.
And I was starting to wonder where he had heard of Eva Peron and Don't Cry For Me, Argentina.

Looking back, looking forward
I feel almost obliged to make a post as a wrap-up of 2008.
But honestly? I can't really think of what I need to note that I don't note every day.

- I have three kids now.
- The big kids like school, though the 1st grader will deny that until he gets there and then he's fine.
- The baby's standing while holding on to things.
- I wrote a book during NaNoWriMo. It needs work, but has potential. I printed it out and just need a three-ring binder for it. i have one around here somewhere...
- I read a lot of books. Lying around breastfeeding gives me lots of time to read.
More facebook people (AKA out of the woodwork)
I managed to link to a friend of mine from high school, and then to her brother who was also sort of a friend... and from them to a whole slew of people a couple of years younger than me from high school that I haven't heard from in ages and ages and ages.
And dude! A goatee, shaved head and massive tattoos? On him? Well, OK, it's not that surprising because by the time he was a sophomore and they moved away, he was already rebelling. And my mom will fall over when I tell her who I'm talking about. Such a nice boy.
So hey, a whole new level of facebook :)

Fell through
Our old playgroup meet up in the park has fallen through. I'm going to call a friend from the group and see if she's up for doing something anyway. It's a chilly, foggy morning, but I hope it will burn off by this afternoon.

I dunno. What day is it today?
I keep losing track. Still a week until school starts and I'm not in a great mood anyway, so it seems like forever. We have a play date tentatively scheduled for tomorrow or else I will drag the boys to karate, even if it takes kicking and screaming. Or at least drag them off to a park, if it's as nice as it was today!
I printed out my NaNo book today. 183 pages 1.5 spaced. I just skimmed it to get it all in one file the other day and it has potential. I am following (3 weeks behind) the Plot Whisperer's blog about how to organize the story in your mind before you even start rewriting. Only that takes a lot of concentration and I'm having a hard time focussing.
The men in the family are watching Le grand blond avec une chaussure noir on DVD. It's a French movie (obviously) and was remade with Tom Hanks wearing one red shoe. So it's fairly old. They might be watching the second Grand blond movie, actually.
It's going to be time to put the baby to bed soon. She had a fairly late nap, but I don't want her staying up too late anyway. She ate about 10 grapes (cut up!) at supper, so that's going to be an interesting diaper in a day or two. The rest of her food, she crumbled and spread all over the place.
I made duck pot pie from the leftover Xmas duck, plus rice, plus lots of vegetables. It needed salt, but is was otherwise good. I am the queen of pot pie! We have a cheap steak in the freezer and maybe in a week or so I'll give it the same treatment.
i see on facebook that my brother has 'friended' someone who has the same name he does. So now I'm googling myself :) HUH! Someone posted a poem on a usenet site that I wrote when DS1 was a baby. At least they gave me credit :)

computers
I put a CD in my laptop so I could listen to music and then it took 15 minutes for me to set up the computer to play the music, and I didn't even set up an "account". Why would I need to set up an account and download my own CD to my laptop, instead of just listening to the dang thing? But anyway, I should probably listen to something else, since I'm trying to work on my book set in late 19th century with U2 playing in the background. I should at least put in.... Not sure I have a lot of late 19th century music. A bit of early 19th, then late 20th.
But I have Rocky and Bullwinkle blaring in the next room, too.
And I'm trying to organize my story by writing major scenes out and the only index cards I have say "from the kitchen of". Well, I'll probably never use them as recipe cards....

Just downloaded
237 more pictures from DS2's camera AND replaced the batteries again. I might post some, since some are pretty good.
Do they make rechargeable AAA batteries? or is this a conspiracy between Fisher Price and Eveready?
